Career Guidance Reporting
CAREER GUIDANCE REPORTING FOR EDUCATION, TRAINING INSTITUTIONS AND EMPLOYMENT AGENCIES
The State Department for Labour and Skills Development is mandated, under Executive Order no. 2 of 2023, to establish and manage the institutional framework for linking industry, skills development and training. As part of the implementation of this mandate, the State Department has developed the National Policy Framework for Career Guidance in Kenya. The Policy seeks to provide a robust and professionalized career guidance system that enables the Kenyan people to manage their learning and career pathways within the context of a rapidly changing education, training and labour-market system.
The implementation of the National Policy Framework for Career Guidance in Kenya is underpinned by the development of the National Guidelines for Career Guidance in Kenya. The guidelines provide a standardized, simplified and practical guide for the implementation of career guidance in Kenya. It is envisaged that the delivery of comprehensive career guidance will go a long way to promote school-to-work transitions, reduce the mismatch between the supply and demand for skilled labour and reduce unemployment, especially among the youth.
For improved implementation, the National Guidelines for Career Guidance in Kenya provide for quarterly reporting by educational and training institutions as well as Public Employment Agencies. The reporting framework will provide uniformity in monitoring and evaluation of the implementation of career guidance services, improve evidence-based decision-making and promote knowledge management in career guidance. The framework has been simplified and digitized to enhance reporting for educational and training institutions as well as Public Employment Agencies.
